I am writing this to give you permission that you already have…
I am writing this to say what you already know…
I am writing this to catalyze a new (not so novel) way to operate…
Because…
BUSY SUCKS!
I started a company in November of 2019 that made me incessantly busy…
(For the record, I have since sold out of this opportunity)
I felt like my daily mantra was…
“I’M JUST SO BUSY…”
And the crazy part is that I said it with pride…
I was proud to be busy…
I was proud to work 90 hours a week…
I was proud of the sweat and blood this gig created in my life…
There is a cliche which I am sure you have heard before which states…
“It’s hard to see the forest through the trees.”
For me, it was impossible to see the trees and for me...the trees were all that mattered.
BUSY was my new norm and it impacted EVERYTHING…
-My health was less than optimal…
-My time with Lindsay was almost non-existent…
-My other ventures got none of me…
-My passion for diverse innovation was gone…
-My time as a DAD (which you know is my #1) was distracted…
But there was a moment when my CODE felt compromised…
I felt like what made me, ME...was dormant.
I felt like what mattered most...was back burnered.
I felt like my purpose in this life...was distracted.
And I finally realized…
BUSY SUCKS!
And I then made a choice to eliminate BUSY!
I am sharing this with you because I know you need to hear this…
You need to hear that you control your BUSY…
You need to hear that you are the director of your own LIFE…
You need to hear that you have CHOICES…
You need to hear from someone who can out-work most people speak his TRUTH…
BUSY SUCKS!
And although you don’t need me to give you the permission to be, do or have anything in your life...I am going to for a moment just in case you need this…
You have the permission to eliminate what does not serve you…
You have the permission to recalibrate and focus on what matters…
You have the permission to say NO!
I learned many years ago about a way of life called INTENTIONAL IMBALANCE where you know that you will be out-of-balance for a period of time, but there is a shining light at the end of that tunnel and a celebration, break, or something glorious to be had when you reached it...and it was a defined date when it would be reached.
For me, INTENTIONAL IMBALANCE is everything…
YES, I have massive deadlines...
YES, I have huge responsibilities…
YES, I have tons of work to do…
But BUSY SUCKS and I don’t do BUSY anymore and I won’t do BUSY ever again!
And here’s the coolest part…
1 - Since selling the “BUSY” company, I have launched 40+ new companies - all of which are insanely positively disruptive through CILA LABS AND 15 new SYNDUIT Private Label marketing platforms - and I “should be busier than ever,” but I’m NOT because I made the choice.
2 - I have NEVER been more present and accessible as a dad, husband, son, sibling, etc.
3 - My health is on freaking FIRE!
4 - I am back to not talking about HAVING IT ALL, but actually HAVING IT ALL.
My challenge to you…
ELIMINATE BUSY
