Big shout for anyone who has attempted to bring their idea to life…
This journey is most certainly not for the faint of heart but it’s also the only path for someone who has an idea that is gnawing at them…
But there’s one really important distinction thats absolutely critical to understand…
Although entrepreneurship is NOT for the faint of heart, it’s a choice as to whether or not you decide to go this direction in your life.
There is no such thing as entrepreneurial DNA…
There is no such thing as entrepreneurial epigenetic…
There is no such thing as an entrepreneurial edge…
But there is a such thing as the CHOICE to become an entrepreneur…
I had this conversation recently with someone when they told me, “I am just not hard-wired to be an entrepreneur.”
First off, what does “hard-wired” actually mean?!?!
You know this is not a real thing...right?!
The reality is that this person is a combination of scared, not driven in this domain, and unsure about what to do as a next step with their idea.
There is NOTHING wrong with NOT trying, but there is something WRONG with not thinking you can…
I can’t because I lack resources…
I can’t because of the color of my skin…
I can’t because of my intellectual level…
I can’t because of my circumstances…
Everything that follows “I can’t” is a protection mechanism because...entrepreneurship is NOT for the faint of heart.
BUT...Entrepreneurship IS For EVERYONE!
I have gone back and forth between entrepreneurship being the path for the few or the path for everyone, and I have finally landed (permanently) on EVERYONE!
For years, I did not understand why EVERYONE did not go down this path until one of my first ventures got very challenging and I realize why entrepreneurship is really only for the few…
But the more I have learned and been exposed to, the more I realize that stepping into entrepreneurship is a CHOICE…
You are making the CHOICE to thrive or struggle on your terms…
You are making the CHOICE to experience FREEDOM…
You are making the CHOICE to execute on your idea or die with it…
And this is a CHOICE!
I do not have a pedigree to make me an entrepreneur, but what I did have, and still do, is an insatiable desire for FREEDOM and PROBLEM SOLVING.
I don’t follow rules…
I don’t do hierarchy…
I don’t do fractional benefit from my efforts…
I DO take personal responsibility…
I DO make my own rules…
I DO yearn for an unlimited upside…
But once again…
I made the choice and never looked back and YOU can do this too…
I can already predict the naysayers…
“Easy for you to say Jared, you started when you were 20 with no responsibility. I am a single parent of three kids and I could never do what you did….OR...easy for you to say Jared, I am a minority and have a disadvantage OR … (fill in your excuse here.”
And my response is the same for any naysayer that spews their excuses my way…
It’s a CHOICE regardless of your circumstances, challenges, skin color, economic status, etc.
AND AND AND…
I can guarantee that someone with the EXACT same excuse you are holding onto has already made the CHOICE that entrepreneurship was the ONLY path for them and they have reached the OTHER side which is the land of freedom, opportunity, impact, financial success, and a TON of fun.
But yet - it’s not for the faint of heart, BUT...it is for EVERYONE!
