REAL Influence

I am obsessed with sales…


But that was not always the case…


I actually vividly remember feeling uncomfortable with my ability to influence…


I had this definition ingrained in me that sales was volatile…

I believed that sales meant a one-sided win…

I believed that there was an element of sleaze associated with sales…


And then I had the pleasure of meeting the first really successful entrepreneur in my life…


The dude could sell AND (more importantly) he was respected in his industry more than anyone else…


It blew my mind….


People not only LOVED buying from him…

They would model what they learned while he was selling TO THEM!


Their experience was so optimal that they literally learned during the sales process on how to sell…



This set a new standard AND definition in my life as it pertained to sales…


SALES = IMPACT

SALES = WIN-WIN

SALES = FREEDOM


Not only did I become EAGER to sell, but I was as enthusiastic about telling people that I sold for a living.


I was proud of the sale...

I was proud to influence…

I was proud to take someone to YES…


But let me explain why…


I made it my mission that in any sales process that I would leave the other person better than I found them - EVEN IF - they did not buy.


Let me say this one more time…


I would leave the other person better than I found them - EVEN IF - they did not buy.


The key here is EVEN IF THEY DON’T BUY...


Far too many people think that a NO is finite…


Done forever…

It’s over…

I lost…

They won…

I’m a loser…

I will never amount to anything…


And the list of insane self-talk ensues…


But I need you to understand why I am sooooooooo effective with sales…


NO is my starting point whereas NO is your END!



I decided that my sales style would be one that others yearned to model…


Positive sales experience…

Feel empowered when being sold…

Realization that sales should be filled with an authentic desire to serve…

Courage to hear NO and keep on keeping on…


And on my quest to figure out how I have been able to step into the world of BEING a model for others who are yearning for a more integrous way of selling...


I came up with this question…


Is this person better WITH ME or WITHOUT me?


If WITH ME - I must help them see what I see.

If WITHOUT ME - I must show them a great example of authentic selling and then send them on their way!


I have now become obsessed with this desire and I invite you to do the same…



If you have already conditioned yourself to believe that you can’t sell, I encourage you to see sales as a process filled with inspiration, exploration and transformation.


INSPIRATION = helping someone see what they are currently unaware of.

EXPLORATION = helping someone uncover what is holding them back.

TRANSFORMATION = if you know you are the solution and you get someone to see this - their life will transform.


And the ultimate test is whether this person feels like their experience in your sales process is one that they yearn to model…


IF YES - SUCCESS regardless of the outcome.

IF NO - WORK TO DO regardless of the outcome.


And here’s why…


I can think of at least 100 people who originally said NO to me when I was attempting to sell them something…


They were not interested…

They were not looking to solve the problem I was able to support…

They were not making my offer a priority…


But what ALSO happened was I made my mark by making my sales experience so interesting, inspiring, and memorable.


Each of these 100+ people will never forget me…


And over the years of hearing NO after NO after NO from these 100+ people, nearly all of them eventually said yes to something I was offering and I am positive 100% of them will say YES in the future.


The reason this matters is because sales in my perspective is simply creating progress in the relationship. If the other party does not feel disrespected, harassed, or pressured and instead they feel excited, intrigued, and inspired, then you left your mark.


And that mark is one that will allow you to remain on the mind of this person so that eventually they can say YES!


This is the REAL power of INFLUENCE...
