There are dozens and dozens of reasons why I love entrepreneurship, but one of the top top top is how entrepreneurship exposes EVERYTHING!
The level of pressure entrepreneurs are under…
The level of pain entrepreneurs experience…
The level of overwhelm that entrepreneurs step into…
The level of wild enthusiasm entrepreneurs exert…
The level of frustration entrepreneurs face…
Is the GREAT EXPOSURE!
But really - anything with high levels of intensity becomes the exposure.
That said - most high intensity experiences have a beginning and an end…
Whereas…
Entrepreneurship has a beginning, but absolutely no ending…
And when I say exposure - what I am referring to is character.
Character matters to me more than anything because you can’t fake it - it’s who you are - and even if you find a way to fool the world for a period of time - eventually your real character is revealed.
Entrepreneurship happens to accelerate the public display of your character because the responsibility you are stepping into will either make or break you.
I remember years ago I was having a meeting with a woman who was in her 90’s…
She has been an entrepreneur for 72 years!
She was telling me how there has never been anything more taxing than her decision to take on this responsibility.
From the emotional roller coaster…
Financial pressures…
Big wins…
Steep loses…
And insane PAIN…
The journey took a real toll on her and then she said…
“I would have had it no other way because the REAL me showed up and I am proud of who that person is.”
I love this statement - the REAL ME!
Far too many people go through life NOT knowing the REAL ME…
It’s almost like they go to bed with a stranger…
Shower with a random person…
And spend every waking moment with someone they just met….
And if you consider yourself an entrepreneur…
GET TO KNOW THE REAL YOU!
Because your ability to MAKE IT is dependent upon it…
I happen to think that CHARACTER can be shaped with self-awareness.
There were parts of my character that I did not align with and as I got to know myself through the intensity of entrepreneurship, I was able to evolve certain areas and eliminate some as well.
But it’s work…
But at the same time - it’s non-negotiable work!
Entrepreneurship ONLY works for those with a strong character and it will expose…

So...
Double down on the good…
Fix the bad…
Eliminate the ugly...
