Please take this post as one man's experience and NOT as the be-all-end-all. What I share has worked for me, it has also worked for many many others, and it requires zero technical know-how which is why I am such an advocate of this strategy for people who feel overwhelmed, confused, and maybe even scared when it comes to marketing and scaling their business.


It’s Complete BS That You Need To Spend Money To Make Money On Marketing Your Business


“It’s as simple as running ads on every platform and driving traffic to a page where people opt-in to get a free report and then you have a series of emails, text messages, bot messages, etc. to direct them to a small offer and then up-sell them into a larger offer and then incentivize them to be an affiliate where they make it a life mission to sell your products/services.”


I get it…


EVERYONE is telling you to do the SAME THING!


And making it seem soooooooooooooooo easy…


Just create a funnel…

Drive people to it…

They will buy…


If it was really that easy, then why is EVERYONE not winning?!?!


As someone who REALLY understands online marketing, offline marketing, sales, and how to drive people to action…


The above WORKS, but NOT every time and definitely NOT for every person.


The essential required skills to successfully deploy the above are the following…


  1. Big budget

  2. Copywriting skills

  3. Graphic design skills

  4. Technical know-how to setup various software solutions that will integrate

  5. TONS of knowledge on digital advertising

  6. Overall marketer and salesperson


I don’t know about you, but the vast majority of people who have a product, service, message or mission DON’T know how to do most of the above and almost all of them can’t do any of the above because those items are NOT the reason you became what you are…


You became what you are because of your burning desire to solve a problem for people…


And the more you STAY in the lane of problem solving, the more fun, excitement, and magic your business will offer you AND the more money you will make, the less money you will burn, and the greater impact that will materialize from your efforts.

And for the record…


It’s not just the money I am concerned about…


I mean money comes and goes…


It’s the time you invest in a strategy that yields no fruit…

It’s the time you invest in a strategy that does not solve the problem you are meant to solve…

It’s the time you invest in a strategy that eventually burns out your flame…


So you might be wondering...if I am NOT supposed to spend money on marketing, what SHOULD I DO?


I believe that EVERY person on the planet has the skill to do many things, but ONE thing in particular…


Build relationships

(even introverts can do this for the record)


I am certain that we are all born with the qualifications, skill, DNA, etc. to build relationships. I have yet to meet anyone who has ZERO friends and most have many - even if they are shy, timid, or afraid to put themselves out there.


And you don’t NEED 100’s or 1,000’s of people in your ecosystem, I say you need a UNIT which is a total of FIVE including you.


Let me state this one more time…


It does not matter how many “friends” you have on Facebook…

It does not matter how many “followers” you have on Instagram…

It does not matter how many “connections” you have on Linkedin…


What matters is your UNIT...the 4 other like-minded people/businesses that you collaborate with, think about, introduce people to, and find ways to all WIN together.


Your UNIT requires ZERO marketing budget…

Your UNIT requires ZERO technical know-how…

Your UNIT requires ZERO creative skills…


Your UNIT only requires your god given ability to build relationships…

I love watching my children play with other kids they are meeting for the first time…


This proves my point that EVERY person on the planet has the ability to build relationships and the only reason why you might NOT be deploying this skill is because of the story you are telling yourself about being shy, scared, introverted, etc.


When you were a child you made friends and I invite you to go back to those early days and deploy the skill that has gotten you to this point and will continue to guide you now that you understand how important relationships are to the success of your mission, product, service, and/or cause.


And the key to make relationship building even easier is my quote from above (and now below too)...

Whether you are at a physical networking event, a virtual conference, at the gym, in a mastermind, socializing in your community, or in any environment where other people exist, if you are authentically interested in solving problems for people, then people will be genuinely interested in you.


And GENUINE INTEREST is what I call the NEW MARKETING BUDGET!


But here’s the key…


It must be GENUINE interest…

NOT

“Yea tell me about you so I can tell you about me.”


I am known for asking people soooooo many questions that they run out of time to learn more about me and this is not a ploy to gather information, but rather a desire to see how I can help them get from their A to their desired B.


And by doing this now for over a decade, there is no one that is out of reach, I invest ZERO dollars on running ads or any of the other strategies that are the “norm,” and I scale businesses faster than most people dream about on a regular basis.


All because of the same god given talent that you have…


***RELATIONSHIP BUILDING***


Finally, An Even Playing Field


I have the great honor to support 10,000’s of business owners that are 50+ years of age and nearly all of them feel like they are swimming upstream.


Computers are confusing…

Social media is overwhelming…

Technology is a disaster…

OMG, what is TikTok!


But what I shared with you in this message is an even playing AND maybe even a competitive advantage for the more mature business owners as you have decades of relationship capital that is just sitting there, waiting for genuine interest, and the single greatest source of new opportunities for your business.


So, What Should You Do Now?


DO as I DO!


I am a big advocate for DOING what I tell people to do versus just telling you what to do, so this is literally the exact strategy I deploy instead of battling in the red ocean of buying traffic and driving leads to my website…


First, I mine my relationships for 15 minutes EVERYDAY and connect with ONE new person with GENUINE interest to see what they are up to…


My goal is to find out the following (via a call or zoom)...


1 - What have you been up to since we spoke last?

2 - What is your main focus right now?

3 - What is your vision for the next 6-12 months?

4 - What is working really well for you?

5 - What is an opportunity for growth?


While asking these questions, I listen carefully to find out what problem this person needs solved and then I either solve it or connect this person with someone who can solve it.


It’s that simple!


But here is where it gets REALLY interesting…


EVERYONE should have a UNIT…


A group of FIVE total people who are clear on their desired outcome and work together to support one another.


IF, I feel that the person I am speaking with is a perfect fit for my UNIT, I invite them to learn more.


IF, they are not a good fit for the UNIT, I put them in my follow-up process so that I can continue to cultivate the relationship because I am certain that all relationships that are given the attention they need and deserve will reap fruit for all those involved.


But, Relationship Building Takes So Much Time!


I’m not sure about you, but running ads that convert takes an exceptional amount of time AND they cost a TON of money in the process.


Relationship building is FAR faster and costs you nothing but time, but like I said, significantly less time than running ads.


And here’s something I have learned and experienced…


You are ONE relationship away from EXPLOSION!

(Explosion is a positive outcome)


And you never know when this relationship will enter your life or mature within your ecosystem which is why you MUST remain consistent.


I have had countless relationships yield seismic growth for what I was working on, but this is because I water them endless with GENUINE INTEREST and I absolutely encourage you to do the same.


So, now is the final and important question for you to answer…


Buying Relationships Versus Building Relationships - Which Shall It Be?
