I consider leadership to be the most important responsibility in the world…
Even more than parenting because in my opinion the only way to be a great parent is to also be a great leader.
And making the decision to lead in one area of your life means that you CAN in all areas as well.
And for the record, you can LEAD without any title…
You don’t need to be a FOUNDER or EXECUTIVE of a company to lead…
You don’t need to be in the FRONT of the room at your religious or spiritual gathering...
You don’t need to even be the TOP performer.
You just have to make the choice to lead…
YES, the CHOICE to lead.
Leadership is not a skill…
Leadership is not something you are born with…
Leadership is not something you earn or are given…
It’s a decision you make when you wake up…
It’s a decision you make when you go to bed…
It’s a decision you make in between your eyes opening and eyes closing EVERY SINGLE DAY…
Leadership is also not a part-time gig…
You can’t turn it on or off…
You can’t choose when it shows up…
Well, I guess you can, but that is NOT the type of leadership I am referring to…
Many people in a position of leadership - which means they either earned it or were given it - are one way on stage and one way off stage.
This is why I say you can’t earn it or get it - you have to make the CHOICE to live it.
And to me, there are five essential characteristics of the leadership who makes the CHOICE to step into this coveted role…
Decisiveness: Leaders MUST have the ability to make decisions and NOT second guess the choice they made. People will not follow someone who is unsure so decide, execute, learn, and execute some more.
Purpose: Leaders MUST have a clearly defined purpose associated with every action they make. Leaders don’t do anything by happenstance and instead have an outcome they will achieve, which they are able to communicate and then they execute based on this intent.
Clarity: Leaders MUST have clarity around the words they deploy and the actions they take based on those words. Communication and follow-through are everything with leadership and people will only follow a leader who can clearly articulate why they are doing what they are doing and why they are encouraging others to do the same as well.
Inspiration: Leaders MUST access their inspiration muscle and this does not mean RAH RAH RAH at all, but rather it means that people feel better when they are with you and after you have left as well. Your message, energy, and essence linger in their lives which becomes their driving force to achieve their desired outcome.
INTEGRITY!: If you had to pick one characteristic this is the ONE you must select because without INTEGRITY, LEADERSHIP cannot exist. Integrity is defined as doing the RIGHT thing regardless of who is watching. The greatest leaders never cared who got credit and their ego was one of doing what was right, not easy. Integrity is the make or break for leadership whether it’s within business, religion, politics or even in your home.
Like I said earlier, LEADERSHIP is the single most important responsibility in the world and it’s a CHOICE!

It’s literally a decision backed by consistent action based on your hyper-awareness that you made this commitment.
