The Most Impactful People Act More Than They Talk

Impact is a result of making a decisive decision and then acting upon that decision, not talking about the impact you plan to make prior to making and acting on your decisive decision. - Jared Yellin

Which one are you…

changeMAKER

or

changeTALKER?

Just so you know – you can’t be both and you can’t pick and choose based on the situation.

You either TALK about change OR

You MAKE change happen!

The Most Impactful People Act More Than They Talk

And listen, one is NOT better than the other, but there is an issue and a pink elephant in the room…

Because MANY MANY MANY people TALK about change as if they are MAKING change happen.

This is an issue because IMPACT is directly correlated to acting more than you speak.

Because talk is noise and noise is loud and loud is drama.

When people are only TALKING about the changes needed in healthcare, it leads to drama.

When people are only TALKING about the changes needed in a business, it leads to drama.

When people are only TALKING about the changes needed in politics, it leads to drama.

When people are only TALKING about the changes needed in your community, it leads to drama.

Why do I say drama?

Just look at how many people are TALKING about what the President should do to make the country better…

Or

How many people in your corporate job huddle around the watercooler TALKING about what the Founder should do to grow the company faster…

OR

The number of people who congregate in a community Facebook group TALKING about the school district or recycling or the lack of having a playground for kids…

All of this talking is just pure drama because what it sounds like is complaining.

But here’s what I find to be EXTREMELY interesting…

ChangeMAKERS never complain!

They actually get EXCITED when the changeTALKERS are talking because the topic of the chatter is often an inefficiency that the changeMAKER can exploit to build a solution that solves the challenge, makes a ton of money, and is extremely fulfilling.

THANK YOU CHANGETALKERS for helping us see what we did not see...

But, what if MAKING and TALKING require the same amount of effort?

Well, they don’t!

Making and Talking do not require the same amount of effort, because MAKING is an enhancer while TALKING is a detractor.

I have yet to find anyone who left a TALKING Facebook thread with more energy…

I have yet to find anyone who arrived back at their desk after TALKING about all the problems at the company with more energy…

I have yet to find anyone who goes home after their therapy visit where they TALKED about their relationship and now they have more energy for the relationship...

But yet – I do like TALKING!

As long as the TALKING follows the MAKING!

I love MAKING and then TALKING about what I am MAKING even before I am done.

This happens to be my secret because I am known within my team and my family as someone who compresses time.

I HATE anticipation!

So, I squash it!

I book trips days before we need to leave…

I make bold decisions and act overnight…

I set insane deadlines and hold them…

And one of the reasons why I am able to operate with this level of result is because of the intensity I bring to each of these decisions…

Not only do I take SEISMIC and often INSANE action, but I also TALK about what I am doing because it holds me fully accountable to delivering on my MAKE!

And here’s what I love…

The more MAKING I do...the more ENERGY I have!

The more TALKING I do (as long as it follows MAKING)...the more IMPACT I have!

Time for the great contradiction + distinction!

In the beginning of this article I posed a question…

Which one are you…

changeMAKER

or

changeTALKER?

Just so you know - you can’t be both and you can’t pick and choose based on the situation.

You either TALK about change OR

You MAKE change happen!

You CAN be both <<< this is the great contradiction and distinction!

There just needs to be an order and a sequence…

Step 1 - Decisively decide on the outcome you want and the action you will take.

Step 2 - Make it happen – take immediate and daily action until the outcome is realized.

Step 3 - Talk about what you are doing as you are doing it for extra accountability, celebration, and energy!

The greatest changerMAKERS I know, including myself, definitely MAKE change happen more than they TALK about it, but they have zero qualms or fear with TALKING about it too. This talking is never from a place of arrogance or seeking approval, rather as a mechanism to keep the people in your world aware of what you are doing because it will give them permission to MAKE change as well AND it will hold you accountable to finish what you started.

I am excited for you to step into the space of changeMAKER, and then changeTALKER, so that you create CHANGE and IMPACT...the world needs more than ever before!
